Gary A. Meyer has been with the firm since 1980 and became a shareholder in 1986. He founded and is chair of the firm's Environmental Law Department. Mr. Meyer has been chosen by his peers as a California Super Lawyer every year since the inception of that award in 2006.
Area of specialization: Environmental law including federal Superfund and state court cost recovery, toxic tort and Proposition 65 litigation; the defense of environmental administrative, civil and criminal enforcement matters; and representation of industrial and commercial property owners, tenants and manufacturers in remediation, notice and discharge and Brownfield matters.
Mr. Meyer has represented corporate clients in a number of landmark hazardous waste civil and criminal multi-count felony and misdemeanor actions filed by prosecutorial agencies such as the United States Attorney, the California Department of Justice, the Environmental Crimes Units of Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, San Diego and San Bernardino Counties, the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the California Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Meyer's clients have included Fortune 500 companies as well as public agencies and their employees and officers.
Mr. Meyer also has vast experience advising corporate clients and their in-house counsel in:
- environmental compliance,
- reporting and disclosure,
- soil and groundwater remediation,
- underground storage tank matters.
For over a decade Mr. Meyer was an instructor in the UCLA Extension Hazardous Materials Certificate Program. He is also an author and editor of numerous environmental law publications, articles and newsletters, and a frequent lecturer to business organizations and educational institutions. Since 1985 Mr. Meyer has organized and chaired his firm's annual seminar entitled Hazardous Waste Management and the Law, which, since its inception, has been attended by over 3,000 business, government and industry representatives. Mr. Meyer's Twenty-Seventh Annual Environmental Law Seminar took place on May 20, 2011. Mr. Meyer has served on the Executive Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar's Environmental Law Section since 1996 and also serves on the Executive Committee of the Environmental Law Section of the California Bar. Mr. Meyer is also active in the California State Bar's Environment and Natural Resource Section. In these capacities, Mr. Meyer has chaired and lectured at numerous State and local bar conferences.
